UP polls: Keshav Maurya, nine ministers lose polls

Uttar Pradesh assembly election 2022 results: Yogi won Gorakhpur (Urban) with a margin of more than 1 lakh votes. However, deputy chief minister Keshav Prasad Maurya lost to Apna Dal (Kameravadi) leader Pallavi Patel (who contested on SP symbol) at Sirathu.

Chief minister Yogi Adityanath may have created a record of sorts by leading his government to a second consecutive term in Uttar Pradesh but his deputy Keshav Prasad Maurya, along with about nine other ministerial colleagues, have lost the assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh.

Forty-seven ministers had contested the elections. Yogi won the poll with a heavy margin of over 1 lakh votes from Gorakhpur (Urban) seat. However, deputy chief minister Keshav Prasad Maurya lost to Apna Dal (Kameravadi) leader Pallavi Patel (who contested on SP symbol) at Sirathu.

Senior cabinet ministers who have lost the poll include minister for sugarcane development Suresh Rana and minister for rural development Rajendra Pratap Singh alias Moti Singh.

Rana and Singh lost to Rashtriya Lok Dal’s Ashraf Ali Khan and Samajwadi Party’s Ram Singh at Thana Bhawan and Patti assembly constituencies, respectively.

Minister of state (independent charge) for sports and youth affairs Upendra Tiwari lost to SP’s Sangram Singh at Phephna. Minister of state (independent charge) for basic education Satish Chandra Dwivedi lost to Mata Prasad Pandey at Itwa.

Ministers of state who have lost election include Ranvendra Pratap Singh, who lost to SP’s Usha Maurya; Girish Chandra Yadav lost to SP’s Mohd Arshad Khan.

Other ministers of state who lost the poll include Anand Swaroop Shukla (Bairia), Chandrika Prasad Upadhya (Chitrakoot) and Chhatrapal Gangwar (Baheri).
