A prominent backward community leader of Uttar Pradesh, Swami Prasad Maurya is a native of Chawad village in Kunda tehsil of Pratapgarh district. Maurya, who was earlier elected from the Padrauna assembly seat in 2009 and 2012 on a BSP ticket and in 2017 from BJP, is contesting the 2022 polls from the Fazilnagar assembly seat on a Samajwadi Party ticket. He was a minister in the BSP government from 2007-12. He enjoys considerable influence within the OBC (Maurya-Kushwaha-Shakya-Saini) community. Maurya started practicing law in Allahabad High Court after completing LLB from Allahabad University in 1980, and took the political plunge in his student days.
