It was a close contest with Samajwadi Party's Rajkumar Alias Raju Yadav winning the election upstaging Bharatiya Janata Party's Ashok Kumar by a margin of just 8,831 votes.
97.6% of the total votes were casted to top three candidates. Samajwadi Party's Rajkumar Alias Raju Yadav grabbed a total of 75,787 votes, while Bharatiya Janata Party's Ashok Kumar got 66,956 votes. Bahujan Samaj Party's candidate Maharaj Singh bagged 48,314 votes to finish at the third place. The top three parties registered 38.7%, 34.2% and 24.7% respectively.
In Uttar Pradesh Assembly election 2012, Samajwadi Party's Rajkumar Alias Raju Yadav beat Bahujan Samaj Party's Rama Shakya by 14,209 votes.
