It was an extremely close competition, with Bahujan Samaj Party's Shyam Sunder Sharma narrowly winning the election defeating Rashtriya Lok Dal's Yogesh Chaudhary by a vary little margin of 432 votes.
91.3% of the total votes were casted to top three candidates. Bahujan Samaj Party's Shyam Sunder Sharma grabbed a total of 65,862 votes, while Rashtriya Lok Dal's Yogesh Chaudhary got 65,430 votes. Bharatiya Janata Party's candidate Satish Kumar Sharma bagged 59,871 votes to finish at the third place. The top three parties registered 31.5%, 31.3% and 28.6% respectively.
