Meerapur assembly constituency had 2,94,149 electors in 2017, out of which 1,58,043 were male voters and 1,36,106 females. The None of the Above (NOTA) option got 0.4% votes.
In the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly Election 2017, Meerapur constituency had 14 candidates for assembly seat contention. Meerapur was one of 312 seats won by the Bharatiya Janata Party. It was an extremely close fight, with Bharatiya Janata Party's Avtar Singh Bhadana winning the election defeating Samajwadi Party's Liyakat Ali by a narrow margin of 193 votes.
87.3% of the total votes were casted to top three candidates. Bharatiya Janata Party's Avtar Singh Bhadana grabbed a total of 69,035 votes, while Samajwadi Party's Liyakat Ali got 68,842 votes. Bahujan Samaj Party's candidate Nawazish Alam Khan bagged 39,689 votes to finish at the third place. The top three parties registered 34.0%, 33.9% and 19.5% respectively.
In Uttar Pradesh Assembly election 2012, Bahujan Samaj Party's Jamil Ahmad Qasmi outperformed Rashtriya Lok Dal's Mithlesh Pal by 12,733 votes.
