In the 2017 Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly Election, there were 10 candidates in the fray from Mehnagar constituency. Mehnagar was one of 47 seats won by the Samajwadi Party. It was a close contest with Samajwadi Party's Kalpnath Paswan winning the election upstaging Suheldev Bhartiya Samaj Party's Manjoo Saroj by a margin of just 5,412 votes.
96.6% of the total votes were casted to top three candidates. Samajwadi Party's Kalpnath Paswan grabbed a total of 69,037 votes, while Suheldev Bhartiya Samaj Party's Manjoo Saroj got 63,625 votes. Bahujan Samaj Party's candidate Vidhya Chaudhari bagged 60,198 votes to finish at the third place. The top three parties registered 34.6%, 31.9% and 30.2% respectively.
In Uttar Pradesh Assembly election 2012, Samajwadi Party's Brij Lal Sonkar defeated Bahujan Samaj Party's Vidya Chaudhary by 10,362 votes.
