It was an extremely close fight, with Samajwadi Party's Tasleem Ahmad winning the election defeating Bharatiya Janata Party's Rajiv Kumar Agarwal by a narrow margin of 2,002 votes.
95.7% of the total votes were casted to top three candidates. Samajwadi Party's Tasleem Ahmad grabbed a total of 81,082 votes, while Bharatiya Janata Party's Rajiv Kumar Agarwal got 79,080 votes. Bahujan Samaj Party's candidate Jameel Ahmad bagged 45,070 votes to finish at the third place. The top three parties registered 37.8%, 36.9% and 21.0% respectively.
In Uttar Pradesh Assembly election 2012, Bahujan Samaj Party's Tasleem beat Bharatiya Janata Party's Rajeev Kumar Agarwal by 11,583 votes.
