Powayan is the assembly constituency which comes under the Shahjahanpur district. It is one of the 403 Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly Constituencies . Uttar Pradesh Assembly Election 2022 for Powayan was held on February 14 and the results was declared on March 10.
Powayan assembly constituency had 3,61,633 electors in 2017, out of which 1,96,214 were male voters and 1,65,419 females. The None of the Above (NOTA) option got 0.6% votes.
In 2017, 11 candidates were competing for Powayan assembly constituency seat. Powayan was one of 312 seats won by the Bharatiya Janata Party. It was a one way contest with Bharatiya Janata Party's Chetram comfortably winning the election defeating Samajwadi Party's Shakuntla Devi by a huge margin of 72,417 votes.
The top three candidates split 96.7% of votes between them. Bharatiya Janata Party's Chetram got a total of 1,26,635 votes, while Samajwadi Party's Shakuntla Devi secured 54,218 votes. Bahujan Samaj Party's candidate Gurbachan Lal grabbed the third spot with 38,797 votes. The top three parties got 55.8%, 23.9% and 17.1% respectively.
In Uttar Pradesh Assembly election 2012, Samajwadi Party's Sakuntla Devi defeated Bahujan Samaj Party's Arun Kumar Sagar by 8,898 votes.
