In 2017, 13 candidates were contesting for Sadar assembly constituency seat. Sadar was one of 312 seats won by the Bharatiya Janata Party. Bharatiya Janata Party's Sitaram won the election by defeating Bahujan Samaj Party's Raj Prasad Upadhayay by a margin of 18,773 votes.
90.1% of the total votes were casted to top three candidates. Bharatiya Janata Party's Sitaram grabbed a total of 68,950 votes, while Bahujan Samaj Party's Raj Prasad Upadhayay got 50,177 votes. Samajwadi Party's candidate Arun Verma bagged 49,692 votes to finish at the third place. The top three parties registered 36.8%, 26.8% and 26.5% respectively.
In Uttar Pradesh Assembly election 2012, Samajwadi Party's Arun Kumar outperformed Bahujan Samaj Party's Raj Prasad by 20,907 votes.
