It was a one way contest with Bharatiya Janata Party's Sunil Kumar Sharma comfortably winning the election upstaging Indian National Congress's Amarpal by a huge margin of 1,50,685 votes.
88.6% of the total votes were casted to top two candidates. Bharatiya Janata Party's Sunil Kumar Sharma got a total of 2,62,741 votes, while Indian National Congress's Amarpal got 1,12,056 votes. Bahujan Samaj Party's candidate Jalaluddin grabbed 41,654 votes to finish at the third place. The top three parties secured 62.1%, 26.5% and 9.9% respectively.
In Uttar Pradesh Assembly election 2012, Bahujan Samaj Party's Amarpal beat Bharatiya Janata Party's Sunil Kumar Sharma by 24,348 votes.
