Salempur is one of the 403 Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly Constituencies that comes under the Deoria district. People of Salempur voted for Uttar Pradesh Assembly Election 2022 on March 3 and the result was declared on March 10.
Salempur assembly constituency had 3,09,090 electors in 2017, out of which 1,67,295 were male voters and 1,41,795 females. The None of the Above (NOTA) option got 0.6% votes.
In the 2017 Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly Election, there were 9 candidates in the fray from Salempur constituency. Salempur was one of 312 seats won by the Bharatiya Janata Party. Bharatiya Janata Party's Kali Prasad won the election upstaging Samajwadi Party's Vijay Laxmi Gautam by a margin of 25,654 votes.
The top three candidates split 96.5% of votes between them. Bharatiya Janata Party's Kali Prasad got a total of 76,175 votes, while Samajwadi Party's Vijay Laxmi Gautam secured 50,521 votes. Bahujan Samaj Party's candidate Ranvijay grabbed the third spot with 28,152 votes. The top three parties got 47.5%, 31.5% and 17.5% respectively.
In Uttar Pradesh Assembly election 2012, Samajwadi Party's Manbodh outperformed Bharatiya Janata Party's Vijaylaxmi by 16,158 votes.
