Shahganj is one of the 403 Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly Constituencies that comes under the Jaunpur district. Uttar Pradesh Assembly Election 2022 for Shahganj was held on March 7 and the results was declared on March 10.
In Uttar Pradesh Assembly Election 2017, there were 3,51,489 registered voters for Shahganj assembly seat, out of which 1,91,604 were male and 1,59,885 were female voters. 0.4% of voters opted for for the None of the Above (NOTA) option.
In 2017, 15 candidates were contesting for Shahganj assembly constituency seat. Shahganj was one of 47 seats won by the Samajwadi Party. It was a close contest with Samajwadi Party's Shailendra Yadav Lalai winning the election upstaging Suheldev Bhartiya Samaj Party's Rana Ajeet Pratap Singh by a margin of just 9,162 votes.
The top three candidates split 83.5% of votes between them. Samajwadi Party's Shailendra Yadav Lalai got a total of 67,818 votes, while Suheldev Bhartiya Samaj Party's Rana Ajeet Pratap Singh secured 58,656 votes. Bahujan Samaj Party's candidate Om Prakash(O.P. SINGH) grabbed the third spot with 51,176 votes. The top three parties got 31.9%, 27.6% and 24.1% respectively.
In Uttar Pradesh Assembly election 2012, Samajwadi Party's Shailendra Yadav #lalaee# defeated Bahujan Samaj Party's Dharmraj Nishad by 10,223 votes.
