Shamli assembly constituency had 2,99,849 electors in 2017, out of which 1,66,053 were male voters and 1,33,796 females. The None of the Above (NOTA) option got 0.3% votes.
In the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly Election 2017, Shamli constituency had 12 candidates for assembly seat contention. Shamli was one of 312 seats won by the Bharatiya Janata Party. Bharatiya Janata Party's Tejendra Nirwal won the election by upstaging Indian National Congress's Pankaj Kumar Malik by a margin of 29,720 votes.
73.7% of the total votes were casted to top three candidates. Bharatiya Janata Party's Tejendra Nirwal grabbed a total of 70,085 votes, while Indian National Congress's Pankaj Kumar Malik got 40,365 votes. Rashtriya Lok Dal's candidate Bijendra Singh bagged 33,551 votes to finish at the third place. The top three parties registered 35.9%, 20.7% and 17.2% respectively.
In Uttar Pradesh Assembly election 2012, Indian National Congress's Pankaj Kumar Malik outperformed Samajwadi Party's Virendra Singh by 3,741 votes.
