In the 2017 Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly Election, there were 14 candidates in the fray from Shikarpur constituency. Shikarpur was one of 312 seats won by the Bharatiya Janata Party. It was a one way contest with Bharatiya Janata Party's Anil Kumar comfortably winning the election upstaging Bahujan Samaj Party's Mukul Upadhyay by a huge margin of 50,245 votes.
The top three candidates split 92.9% of votes between them. Bharatiya Janata Party's Anil Kumar got a total of 1,01,912 votes, while Bahujan Samaj Party's Mukul Upadhyay secured 51,667 votes. Indian National Congress's candidate Udai Karan Singh Dalal grabbed the third spot with 32,914 votes. The top three parties got 50.8%, 25.7% and 16.4% respectively.
In Uttar Pradesh Assembly election 2012, Samajwadi Party's Mukesh Sharma beat Bahujan Samaj Party's Anil Kumar by 8,403 votes.
