It was an extremely close fight, with Bharatiya Janata Party's Sanju Devi narrowly winning the election upstaging Samajwadi Party's Azeemul Haq Pahalwan by a slim margin of 1,725 votes.
96.7% of the total votes were casted to top three candidates. Bharatiya Janata Party's Sanju Devi grabbed a total of 74,768 votes, while Samajwadi Party's Azeemul Haq Pahalwan got 73,043 votes. Bahujan Samaj Party's candidate Manoj Kumar Verma bagged 49,526 votes to finish at the third place. The top three parties registered 36.6%, 35.8% and 24.3% respectively.
In Uttar Pradesh Assembly election 2012, Samajwadi Party's Azimulhaque Pahlwan outperformed Bahujan Samaj Party's Ajay Kumar Alias Vishal Verma by 27,521 votes.
