It was a close contest with Bharatiya Janata Party's Roshan Lal Verma winning the election upstaging Indian National Congress's Kunwar Jitin Prasada by a margin of just 5,705 votes.
The top three candidates split 93.4% of votes between them. Bharatiya Janata Party's Roshan Lal Verma got a total of 81,770 votes, while Indian National Congress's Kunwar Jitin Prasada secured 76,065 votes. Bahujan Samaj Party's candidate Avadhesh Kumar Verma grabbed the third spot with 31,418 votes. The top three parties got 40.4%, 37.6% and 15.5% respectively.
In Uttar Pradesh Assembly election 2012, Bahujan Samaj Party's Roshan Lal Verma beat Samajwadi Party's Anwar Ali Urf Zaki Ur Rahman by 10,707 votes.
