Varanasi South comes under the Varanasi district and it is one of the 403 Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly Constituencies . People of Varanasi South voted for Uttar Pradesh Assembly Election 2022 on March 7 and the results was declared on March 10.
In Uttar Pradesh Assembly Election 2017, there were 2,81,274 registered voters for Varanasi South assembly seat, out of which 1,57,497 were male and 1,23,777 were female voters. 0.2% of voters opted for for the None of the Above (NOTA) option.
In the 2017 Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly Election, there were 17 candidates in the fray from Varanasi South constituency. Varanasi South was one of 312 seats won by the Bharatiya Janata Party. Bharatiya Janata Party's Dr. Neelkanth Tiwari won the election upstaging Indian National Congress's Rajesh Mishra by a margin of 17,226 votes.
94.1% of the total votes were casted to top two candidates. Bharatiya Janata Party's Dr. Neelkanth Tiwari got a total of 92,560 votes, while Indian National Congress's Rajesh Mishra got 75,334 votes. Bahujan Samaj Party's candidate Rakesh Tripathi grabbed 5,922 votes to finish at the third place. The top three parties secured 51.9%, 42.2% and 3.3% respectively.
In Uttar Pradesh Assembly election 2012, Bharatiya Janata Party's Shyamdev Roy Chaudhari (Dada) outperformed Indian National Congress's Dr. Dayashankar Mishra #dayalu# by 13,822 votes.
