In the Uttarakhand Legislative Assembly Election 2017, Kedarnath constituency had 9 candidates for assembly seat contention. Kedarnath was one of 11 seats won by the Indian National Congress. It was a close contest with Indian National Congress's Manoj Rawat winning the election upstaging independent candidate Kuldeep Singh Rawat by a margin of just 869 votes.
69.8% of the total votes were casted to top three candidates. Indian National Congress's Manoj Rawat got a total of 13,906 votes, while independent candidate Kuldeep Singh Rawat secured 13,037 votes. Independent candidate Asha grabbed the third spot with 11,786 votes. The top three parties got 25.1%, 23.5% and 21.2% respectively.
In Uttarakhand Assembly election 2012, Indian National Congress's Shaila Rani Rawat outperformed Bharatiya Janata Party's Asha by 2,328 votes.
