Speaker of the outgoing Uttarkhand assembly Prem Chand Aggarwal was among the victorious BJP candidates as the party headed for a second consecutive win in the hill state. Aggarwal defeated Jayendra Chand Ramola of the Congress in Rishikesh by 19,057 votes.

Two of the most prominent faces in Uttarakhand – CM Pushkar Singh Dhami and former CM Harish Rawat – have lost the battle from their respective seats time.

Uttarakhand chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami is trailing by 6932 votes and is likely to lose from Khatima seat.

Veteran Congress leader Harish Rawat, who was also the chief ministerial face for the grand old party in Uttarakhand, loses from Lalkuwa seat.

BJP leads on 48 seats, Congress on 18 seats, BSP on 2 and independents on 2 seats.

The BJP is all set for a second consecutive term in office this time, something which has never happened in the state's 21-year history. However, the party's chief ministerial face Pushkar Singh Dhami is trailing from Khatima seat.

While BJP has taken a clear lead in Uttarakhand, here's how some of the most prominent faces are performing:

Pushkar Singh Dhami (BJP, Khatima) – Trailing by 2287 votes, Congress' Bhuwan Chandra Kapri leading.

Harish Singh Rawat (Congress, Lalkuwa) – Trailing by 13893 votes, BJP's Mohan Singh Bisht leading.

Pritam Singh (Congress, Chakrata) – Leading with 16,157 votes against BJP’s Ram Sharan Nautiyal

Anupama Rawat (Congress, Haridwar Rural) – Leading with 47,181 votes against BJP's Yatishwaranand.

Col (Retd) Ajay Singh Kothiyal (AAP, Gangotri) – Trailing, Suresh Singh Chauhan of the BJP leading by 5935 votes.

The ruling BJP secured a comfortable lead in Uttarakhand on Thursday with its candidates ahead in 44 assembly seats while the main opposition Congress was ahead in 22 seats, according to poll trends available.

The Election Commission on Thursday lifted the ban on victory processions during the counting of votes and declaration of results in the five states where elections were held recently.

Uttarakhand chief minister Pushkar Dhami has now taken the lead from Khatima seat by 75 votes. BJP is in a comfortable lead in the state.

Votes have poured in from all the 70 constituencies and the BJP has take a comfortable lead from 42 seats. Congress, on the other hand, is leading from 22 seats, while other parties and independent candidates from 6 seats.

The ruling BJP was ahead of the Congress in Uttarakhand with its party candidates leading in 37 seats on Thursday, according to early trends available. 

According to data available on the Election Commission website at 10:20am for 56 seats, the Congress was ahead in 18 seats, the BSP in two seats, the Uttarakhand Janekta party and independent in one each.

Congress' CM candidate Harish Rawat is trailing from Lalkuwa seat by 7085 votes.

Uttarakhand CM Pushkar Singh Dhami trailing from Khatima by 945 votes. 

BJP leads from 36 seats, Congress from 18 seats, others from 5 seats.

As per the early trends at 9:20am, BJP has taken the lead again from 28 seats, Congress ahead in 14 seats.

Congress has taken the lead in 19 seats, while the BJP leads in 16 seats.

The BJP and Congress are in a neck and neck battle in Uttarakhand. BJP is marginally ahead with 9 seats against Congress' 7 so far. Chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami is leading in Khatima seat.

Congress leader and former state Chief Minister Harish Rawat said his party will comfortably win the Uttarakhand Assembly elections by bagging almost 48 seats.

Talking to ANI, Rawat said, "I am confident of the victory of Congress in Uttarakhand. Everything will be clear in the next 2-3 hours. I have faith in the people of the state. I believe Congress will get close to 48 seats."

“Postal ballots are being counted right now. Around 550 police personnel are deployed here. The use of mobile phones is banned inside counting centers. Victory rallies can be conducted only with permission,” Dehradun SSP Janmejay Khanduri told news agency ANI.

According to the initial trends, Pushkar Singh Dhami's BJP is ahead of the Harish Rawat-led Congress camp.

Counting of votes begins in Uttarakhand. It is going to be a tight fight between the incumbent BJP and the rejuvenated Congress. 

All eyes are set on the Election Commission as counting of votes begin in less than 10 minutes.

With exit polls predicting a close race in Uttarakhand, leaders of both the ruling BJP and the opposition Congress have exuded confidence about emerging victorious during the counting of votes on Thursday. If BJP is able to win the election, it will be the first time that a government will be repeated since the formation of Uttarakhand.

Ahead of the vote counting, Chhattisgarh chief minister Bhupesh Bhagel former Uttarakhand CM Harish Rawat and other Congress leaders in Dehradun on Wednesday.

Uttarakhand assembly polls witnessed a triangular contest among the ruling BJP, Congress and Aam Aadmi Party. The exit polls have predicted a hung assembly this time, while giving an edge to the incumbent BJP.

Counting to the 70-member Uttarakhand assembly election will begin at 8am today.
