After a short trip to Serbia, I am now on my way back home. I hope to spend the next week recovering from the last several stressful, manic, hectic weeks!

The first real competition of significant importance is four weeks away from now —the 50th World Shooting Championships in Munich. I am going in as Defending Champion, much to my complete dismay! This is partly because at least fifty people have told me it’s absolutely IMPOSSIBLE to defend a world title in my event!

No body in the two hundred year history of this sport has ever done so. Suffice to say that it is a pretty daunting prospect, and I suppose these fifty opinions are a great cushioning for my self esteem should I, like others before me, not come back victorious!

As I have decided to challenge myself, my very brave answer to all the people I have spoken with, has been “You guys are probably depressingly right but, I guess I would like to find out for my self!” And that is precisely my outlook towards the event! It’s going to be a very tough four weeks but its also going to be tons and tons of incredible fun.

I have conditioned myself to believe that irrespective of the end result, I know I have given it all I can and tried to prepare to the best of my abilities. I have faced every challenge thrown my way to even get a chance to compete at the event. I believe in an athletes life, winning is important, but. The journey is more meaningful! The constant pursuit toward overcoming ones own limitations and always challenging the part of you that says you will not or cannot win!

I am convinced that everybody has, at some time in their life, faced an equivalent. Some thing that feels unsurmountable. My, perhaps unsolicited, advice is enjoy the ride!

Let’s face it, roller coasters are far more thrilling than a then merry go rounds!
