Chic designer wear meets rural crafts

Now, you can not only explore traditional weaves and contemporary designer wear under one roof, but also do your bit for the upliftment of rural artisans. Pause for a cause, a fund-raising exhibition-cum-sale, will be on display in the city for three days, starting today.

Now, you can not only explore traditional weaves and contemporary designer wear under one roof, but also do your bit for the upliftment of rural artisans. Pause for a cause, a fund-raising exhibition-cum-sale, will be on display in the city for three days, starting today. Organised by non-profit association Concern India Foundation, the exhibition will showcase the works of over 25 designers and rural artisans.

“As it’s a fundraiser, whatever earnings will be collected by the sales, a part of it will be given to the people who need it the most. That money might help a woman to be self reliant, a child to study, an old man with health care and shelter,” says Ameetha Munshi of Concern India Foundation.

A novel effort to bring designer as well as traditional crafts on one stage, the exhibition will display a selective range of textiles, trendy fashion wear, crafted jewellery and accessories from across different regions in the country.

“The exhibition also helps the economically backward people who are talented and need a platform to showcase it. It will gratify a poor artisan’s need,” adds Munshi.

Some of the works ondisplay include intricate chikaankari on georgette by designer Anvita, embroidered blouse pieces and unstitched salwar- kurta sets by Dilip Khemka, chintz prints on bedcovers and stock reversible odhnis by Gujrat Hastkala. Berozgar Mahila Samiti from Bhagalpur will be showcasing their range of tussore yardage in vibrant colors and weaves among many other designs.
