10:15 pm IST: That’s it from the group stages of the FIFA U-17 World Cup. The matches of the preliminary round gave us many memorable moments -- the most striking for Indian fans would be the country’s first goal in a World Cup -- by Jeakson Singh -- and the heroics of India goalkeeper Dheeraj Singh Moirangthem. Some interesting match-ups to look forward to in the knockouts of the Under-17 World Cup, which begins with the Round of 16 ties from Monday (October 16).

10:05 pm IST: Mexico, on the other hand, would be happy they progressed but would end up playing Iran, who have been on a rampage this FIFA U-17 World Cup. They will definitely have to step up their game, turn with their scoring boots rather, in the next round match.

9: 59 pm IST: Much was expected of this Chilean side, who failed to score right through the tournament, conceding seven.

9:54 pm IST: That’s it. The referee blows the final whistle. It’s a 0-0 draw at Guwahati between Mexico and Chile. The Mexicans will go through to the Round of 16 as one of the four best finishers from the group stage.

9:49 pm IST: Five minutes of added time in the match. Both teams are showing urgency to score. And a strike from Roberto de la Rosa, the Mexican No 10, hits the crossbar. That’s unlucky. 0-0 still.

9:44 pm IST: A good move from Mexico up the left. The shot is received by Torres whose shot sails over the bar. 0-0 still, just two minutes left to play in regular time.

9:41 pm IST: Meanwhile, England are leading 4-0 in their Group F match against Iraq. They look set to finish atop the group with Iraq progressing in second place if the Mexico vs Chile match end in a draw (0-0 after 82 minutes).

9:35 pm IST: Players from both sides seem to be struggling from the sultry conditions in Guwahati. Water and wet towels are being used at liberty by the support crew as Chile makes a substitution -- Willian Gama comes in to replace Oliver Rojas. It’s still 0-0 after 78 minutes of play.

9:30 pm IST: Marco Ruiz of Mexico is booked yellow for a rash challenge. The scores, however, are tied 0-0 with 19 minutes left in the game

9:26 pm IST: Mexico soon follow with their own substitution -- Carlos Guerrero replaces Alexis Gutierrez

9:24 pm IST: Chile make the first substitution -- Yerco Oyanedel and Antonio Diaz comes in. Plan seems to be to add zing to the attacking side of midfield.

9:24 pm IST: Chile goalkeeper Julio Borquez makes another crucial save. Scores level at 0-0

9:21 pm IST: It’s 0-0 in Guwahati after 61 minutes, with Mexico creating the chances but unable to convert against Chile.

9:16 pm IST: While goals seem a distant dream in the Mexico vs Chile Group F match in Guwahati, in the other match, floodgates have opened. England have scored twice in the span of two minutes to lead 3-0. Emile Smith-Rowe and Danny Loader scored, adding to Angel Gomes’ first half strike.

9:12 pm IST: Mexican players are showing a bit more urgency to score in the second half. But the 5-4-1 Chilean formation looks too tight for them to break at the moment. In a must-win match, Chile sticking to a defensive formation is intriguing. That goes against the South American football philosophy as well. Where is the famed flair one associates with Chilean and South American football?

9:06 pm IST: Action shifts to the Mexican half from the clearance of the freekick. Chile earn a freekick but a tad far out. Raul Sandoval attempts a direct shot at goal but its too far and wide to trouble Mexican goalkeeper Cesar Lopez.

9:04 pm IST: The second half begins with Mexico resuming from where they started. They get a freekick just outside the penalty area on the left side. A nasty challenge from Gaston Zuniga of Chile earns him a yellow card. The freekick, however is wasted.

8:50 pm IST: End of first half. Mexico, despite controlling the tempo of the match, have been unable to score against Chile. 0-0 the scoreline after the first 45 minutes of this must-win match for both the teams.

In the other Group F match in Kolkata, England lead Iraq 1-0, with a strike from Angel Gomes.

8:45 pm IST: Three minutes of added time!

8:44 pm IST : The final minutes of the first half is upon us. Mexico, despite controlling the tempo of the match and dominating possession, have not been able to score. Chilean defense, especially their goalkeeper (who seems to be nursing a shoulder injury) has been resolute. Score is tied 0-0 and if it stays this way, Chile will go into the break happier.

8:37 pm IST: Action shifts to the Mexican goal, one of Chile’s rare excursions. But the attempt at goal just floats over the bar and falls on the top netting. Scores are tied 0-0 after 37 minutes of play.

8:35 pm IST: Another shot on target by Mexico, and a pretty straight-forward save for Borquez. But he was grimacing and feeling his left shoulder after saving the ball.

8:30 pm IST: Medics again attend to Julio Borquez’s shoulder. He seems to be in pain. Chile would not want a forced substitution of their goalkeeper at this stage.

8:28 pm IST: Mexico again build up patiently, before launching a long ball from the middle that troubles the Chile defense again, though the effort was saved by ‘’keeper Borquez, who is having a very busy night.

8:23 pm IST: Another freekick for Mexico. This time in a danger area. Mexico have some good deadball specialists. Diego Lainez takes the shot, beats the wall but Julio Borquez stretches to push the ball out. He seems to have injured his shoulder in the process. The medical team is out there with the magic spray as Mexico get ready to take the corner.

8:21 pm IST: Mexico moves into the danger area off a thrown in on the left flank and the ball finds the net, but the referee had already blown the whistle for a foul on the Chile goalkeeper Julio Borquez. No goal. Scores tied 0-0

8:19 pm IST: Mexico make a daring move up th eleft flank, but the cross doesn’t find anyone in the penalty area and rolls out for a goalkick. Mexico are going forward again though.

8:16 pm IST: Chile get their first corner of the match but wastes with a kick that was too long.

8:15 pm IST: Mexico have been sticking to the patient build-up game, controlling and starting their moves from the midfield, before trying the flanks for moving up. Chile on the other hand are sitting deep, keen on counters. But their counter so far have been speculative long balls at best, one which the striker fails to reach.

8:10 pm IST: A nasty challenge, and Mexico get a freekick on the left side of the Chile half. But the Chilean defense deals with the floated kick with east. Action then quickly shifts to the other flank, but the Chile move results in a goalkick for Mexico.

8:05 pm IST: A corner for Mexico, but the header from Raul Sandoval goes wide. Scores level at 0-0.

8:03 pm IST: Mexico have already started controlling the tempo of the match with some crisp passing.

8:01 pm IST: Straight away the ball reaches Chile goal. But no danger. Goal-kick for Chile.

8:00 pm IST: The players are set. Mexico kick off -- the do-or-die match begins.

7:53 pm IST: The players are in the middle now for the national anthems -- Mexican anthem first.

7:52 pm IST: Going by form in the tournament, Mexico are favourites against Chile, who has had a very wayward tournament by their standards. Let’s see if the South Americans come to life when the stakes are high.

7:49 pm IST: While the big match of the day would be the all-or-nothing one between Mexico and Chile here. A win would guarantee progress. Mexico were held 1-1 by Iraq in the first match. They went down 2-3 to England -- a narrow defeat.

7:47 pm IST: Over to Group F. England lead with six points take on Iraq in Kolkata with the top spot at stake.

7:41 pm IST: Meanwhile, in the Group E matches earlier in the day in Kolkata, Japan drew 1-1 with New Caledonia to qualify for the round of 16, while France topped the group with a 5-1 win vs Honduras in Guwahati.

7:40 pm IST: Both the sides are in the ground down, going through their warm-up routines.

7:37 pm IST: Chile would be keen to plug their leaky defence before harbouring hopes of mounting attacks on the Mexican goal. They have conceded seven goals without scoring one in the first two group matches. Their nightmare started with a 0-4 drubbing by England, following by a 0-3 thrashing by Iraq.

7:30 pm IST: Welcome to the live coverage of the Mexico vs Chile FIFA U-17 World Cup Group F match.

Mexico are currently third in the group with one point. If the central American side wins Saturday, and Iraq go down to England, then they have a chance to finish second in the group. If Iraq-England end in a draw or if the Asian side wins that match, Mexico (with a win against Chile) would progress as one of the four best third-placed sides from the group stage.

Chile, on the other hand, are aiming to finish a rather disappointing campaign on a positive note. The South Americans have conceded seven goals without a reply in the two group matches they have played so far. A win would put them in contention to progress as one of the best third-placed sides.
