Citing the incident as an example of the failure of law and order in the state, Yadav demanded CBI inquiry into the incident. “There is no scope for mercy and such criminals should be hanged publicly so that a strong message is delivered,” Yadav said.

On Wednesday, a couple was beaten to death and two of their relatives, one of them a minor girl, were allegedly gangraped after being held hostage by five armed robbers in Dhingeri village of Tauru tehsil of Mewat.

Addressing a press conference on Saturday, Yadav said the Mewat incident was one of the most brutal crimes he has seen his entire life.

He said crimes have increased on the Kundli-Manesar–Palwal Expressway because of inadequate policing. “Such incidents are happening in all parts of Haryana as there is no fear of police and administration,” he said.

Criticising the BJP government, the Congress leader said neither the CM nor the deputy commissioner have visited the victims. “I went to meet the two girls who have suffered badly and was shocked to know that barring senior police officials, none from the civil administration visited them,” he said.

Yadav also said compensation to victims and a job for one of the family members should be announced at the earliest.

The Congress, he said, will support any decision taken by the mahapanchyat of 84 villages that has been called to discuss the matter on Sunday.
