Gangster Binder Gujjar, and members of his gang, members of Kaushal gang, brothers of Sandeep Gadoli -- Braham Prakash and Kuldeep -- and members of their gang, gangster Ashok Rathi and his aides have been lodged at the Bhondsi jail. Sources said men who have alligiences to Gujjar and Gadoli groups are the most active, and keep a close tab on each other, while waiting for an opportunity to attack.

“We are keeping a watch on the activities of hardened criminals, and increased the number of watch and ward staff. There is regular rotation of barracks for inmates and they are not allowed to stay in one place for long,” Harinder Singh, superintendent of Bhondsi jail, said.

The jail authorities are ensuring that the prison is equipped with adequate medical facilities so that inmates, particularly the known offenders, can be treated on the premises and the necessity to take them to a hospital can be avoided.

The jail authorities are also coordinating with the crime branch to ensure that a vigil is maintained on friends, relatives, and accomplices, who visit these gangsters regularly. Singh said several steps have also been taken to ensure that the communication of criminals with the outside world is minimal.

“We have installed jammers that prevent the use of mobile phones and this has been a priority for us,” he said.

However, sources said the gangsters will continue to engage in bitter rivalry because there is too much at stake for them, including their survival. “Crores of rupees in extortion and real estate deals are generated in Gurgaon every year and someone is bound to fight for this stake,” a jail official said.
