The 600-metre stretch between AIT Chowk in Sector 56 and Golf Course extension road will be upgraded at a par with the 16-lane DLF-Huda expressway.

The 600-metre stretch between AIT Chowk in Sector 56 and Golf Course extension road will be upgraded at a par with the 16-lane DLF-Huda expressway. The Haryana government took this decision to ensure that this stretch, which lies between Golf Course expressway and Golf Course extension road, does not turn into a traffic bottleneck.

Taking into account the importance of this stretch, SS Das, additional chief secretary, town and country planning department, has directed the Haryana urban development authority (Huda) to take up the work on priority basis after conducting an inspection of the DLF-Huda expressway.

Das, who was on first his visit to Gurgaon on Thursday after joining the town and country planning department, visited all major infrastructure projects in the city being developed by Huda.

The DLF-Huda expressway is a signal-free road with eight underpasses and a flyover. It aims to reduce commuting time between Sector 56 and Sirhaul toll plaza to three minutes from the current 30. The expressway culminates at AIT chowk from where a four-lane road connects it to Golf course extension road.

Huda administrator Yashpal Yadav said they will prepare a detailed project report for the 600-metre stretch to be developed on a par with the DLF-Huda expressway. “There is apprehension that this stretch could prove to be a bottleneck and that is why the government has directed that it be prepared as an extension of the expressway,” he said.

Residents of the area have also been demanding that the road between AIT Chowk and Golf Course road be upgraded. Haryana PWD minister Rao Narbir Singh had also backed the project, after which Huda had prepared a report to develop this road.

However, despite this, Huda did not take the project ahead due to a lack of funds. Now, after the direction from Das, Huda is likely to go ahead with the project.

Local residents said if this stretch was left unattended, it could lead to major traffic problems as vehicles moving at high speeds on the DLF-Huda expressway would be forced to halt as they enter the narrow four-lane road.

Welcoming the decision, Mahesh Dayma, former councillor of the area, said, “This decision by the government will help the area greatly as it witnesses daily jams and waterlogging during monsoons.”
