Hollywood has always looked for inspiration from various quarters. After comics, book adaptations, sequels, trilogy and franchises, it is now focusing on portraying onscreen lives of those whose names have gone down in history.

Hollywood has always looked for inspiration from various quarters. After comics, book adaptations, sequels, trilogy and franchises, it is now focusing on portraying onscreen lives of those whose names have gone down in history. From a hippy-turned-CEO Steve Jobs, to the Golden Age actor Elizabeth Taylor, who set the record for the most number of marriages in showbiz, to iconic musicians such as Janis Joplin and Jimi Hendrix — a slew of biopics are on their way to the big screen.



Movie: Lovelace

Based On: Linda Lovelace

Played by: Amanda Seyfried

Actor Amanda Seyfried has been roped in to play iconic porn star Linda Lovelace in the upcoming film, Lovelace. Directed by Rob Epstein and Jeffrey Friedman, the biopic focuses on the story of Lovelace, who was abused by the porn industry before she denounced her pornography career, and became a spokeswoman for the anti-pornography movement. The movie is set to release in 2013.

Based On: Steve Jobs

Played by: Ashton Kutcher

TV’s biggest prankster, Ashton Kutcher has been all over the news since the 34-year-old actor was announced to play late Apple co-founder Steve Jobs. The That ’70s Show and Punk’d fame star will portray the tech genius in the independent film that traces the tech guru’s journey from a hippie to a revolutionary entrepreneur. The film’s release date is yet to be announced.

Movie: Diana

Based On: Princess Diana

Played by: Naomi Watts

The 44–year-old actor channels the late Princess Diana for the film, Diana, which is scheduled to release in 2013. Directed by Oliver Hirschbiegel, the film is about the last two years of Diana’s life and focuses on her relationships with heart surgeon Dr Hasnat Khan and Dodi Fayed before her death in a car crash.

Douglas, 67, will portray the life of famous pianist Valentino Liberace in an upcoming TV movie. Scheduled to come out next year, it is being directed by Steven Soderbergh. The biopic follows Liberace’s ill-fated love affair with Scott Thorson, played by the Bourne series star, Matt Damon.

Lindsay Lohan, a former child star and rehab regular, will portray Hollywood’s Golden Age glamour queen, Liz Taylor. LiLo is hoping to resurrect her acting career by playing Liz, who is still etched in public memory for her jewellery collection and multiple marriages, not to forget her eternal charm. The movie is scheduled to release on November 25 this year.

Sporting an afro-style straight from the 1960s, rapper Andre 3000 aka Andre Benjamin, is all set to portray Hendrix in this upcoming biopic, that is set to hit theatres in 2013. The former Be Cool actor will be portraying Hendrix’s years in England before he became an international star. John Ridley is helming the biopic.
