Dusshera 2023: Celebrities resolve to vanquish the evil within

Oct 24, 2023 11:08 AM IST

While for some actors, it's craving for unhealthy food, others talk about trusting people very easily.

Ahead of the auspicious festival of Dusshera, actors take a moment to reflect on their own personal battles with their inner demons. They bravely identify the one evil that they would like to eradicate within themselves, recognising that it is often that bad habit or negative trait that hinders their personal growth and well-being.

Himanshi Khurana, Urvashi Dholakia among many others share that one evil they want to get rid of.

One habit that I would like to get rid of this Dusshera is doubting myself. I often doubt myself and that brings fear in me- fear of losing and everything negative. Though I am a confident person, I think I should keep my confidence up all the time and not doubt myself.

One negative trait that I possess is that I tend to trust people too easily. I have a tendency to believe that everyone has a pure heart, which often leads to negative consequences for me in the end. As Dusshera approaches, I would like to become more intelligent and discerning in terms of knowing when to maintain distance from others and when to place my trust in them. It is important for me to develop a better understanding of people’s intentions and motivations, so that I can avoid unnecessary suffering.

Perfectionism can often become a hindrance rather than a virtue, as it can lead to unnecessary stress, procrastination, and even a fear of failure. So I am trying to focus on excellence and progress rather than perfection, and embrace the idea that it’s okay to make mistakes and learn from them, as this is a natural part of growth and development. I would want to let go of the need for everything to be perfect, so that I can free myself to take more risks, be more creative, and ultimately lead a more fulfilling and balanced life.

For me, it would be to not put up a strong front all the time. The world perceives and views me as a very strong and independent woman, but because of that I have somewhere forgotten that I am a vulnerable person too...I have fears. And I don’t think showing your vulnerabilities is a sign of weakness. It’s good to have emotions and to express them, but I don’t do it often. I would like to start doing that now.

Since childhood I have fond memories of Dusshera. It’s a significant lesson in life that no matter how difficult the journey is, eventually good does win over evil and these values have been inculcated in us since childhood. As of now the one habit that I’d like to detach myself from is my sweet tooth. Its been something I’ve been trying to keep in check but sometimes I fail to control it. Being in the industry, its all the more important and I hope I can stick to my resolution and restrict my sweet intake to only during festivals.

Throughout my life, I have consistently harboured a strong ambition and an unwavering drive to achieve certain goals. I have always held the belief that ‘I want to achieve this’ or ‘I want to reach here,’ constantly setting high standards for myself. There have been instances where I have placed expectations upon myself, believing that they would bring me happiness. But sometimes, what we don’t understand in life is that what we desire might not be the best for us. So, this Dusshera, I want to calm myself down and not be so success oriented. Instead, I aim to cultivate gratitude for what I already possess and understand that true happiness can be derived from appreciating the little things in life.

I’m someone who always makes sure to be on time, no matter where I’m going or what I’m doing. But I’ve noticed that I get really annoyed when others are late, and this irritation has become a bad habit. I know I need to change this and stay calmer when it happens. To do that, I think it’s important to understand why people might be late. Sometimes, they have their own problems or unexpected things come up. Trying to understand their side and talking to them could help me handle my feelings better. I also want to work on being patient. And want to be more flexible with my plans, so I’m not stressed about being on time. It won’t be easy, but I’m determined to be less irritated and more relaxed in these situations.

Ahead of Dusshera, I am determined to eliminate sugar from my diet due to its direct impact on health. From my perspective, sugar is the most significant adversary that one should avoid. Its avoidance can bring about a substantial improvement in one’s overall well-being. Gaining control over my mind is crucial in overcoming the temptation of consuming sugar and other sweet substances. Moreover, I aspire to enhance my mental strength and intellect, enabling me to exert control over my mind and refrain from consuming anything detrimental to my health.

There are certain thoughts and patterns of behaviour that I would like to eradicate. I want to do things in the same way that I have done, but with a lot less emotion and a lot less anger. Another thing is that I find myself constantly focused on the future, but I aspire to embrace and appreciate the present moment. This is what I strive to cultivate within myself. Furthermore, I have come to understand the most significant lesson in life – loving oneself before seeking love from others. It is essential to find inner happiness before expecting love from external sources. This is what I aim to internalise.

Himanshi Khurana

This Dussehra I would like to get rid of all the negativity around me and inside me, which in turn results in a healthy life. I believe, a person’s good health is very important, especially nowadays. Hence, I would really want to make an extra effort to control my cravings for unhealthy food and follow a strict diet. I would want to follow a proper diet and keep myself fit and healthy mentally and physically.
