Comea gin? Saltburn’s bathtub- water scene inspires ‘milky’ cocktail
The infamous scene has become an inspiration for mixologists and businesses to peg products on the much-talked-about moment in the movie.
In the latest episode of pop culture inspiring market trends, a bizarre new cocktail is going viral — all thanks to a rather controversial moment in the film Saltburn. In the particular scene, actor Barry Keoghan’s Ollie slurps the used bathwater in which Jacob Elordi’s character masturbates. Inspired by the scene, Australian cocktail brand Mr. Consistent posted its very own recipe combining lychee martini, gin, and coconut milk on TikTok, which has amassed over 2 million views. While some are turned off (pun intended) by the cocktail, others are keeping an open mind.

“While the thought of replicating flavors of sexual pleasure or sweat can sound off-putting, they can be properly crafted to create legitimate recipes,” says Kamalaksh KM, a mixologist-entrepreneur, adding, “It’s a good trendsetter. Otherwise, people in India are not very experimental.”
Notably, this isn’t the first time that a pop culture moment has set off a cocktail trend. Mixologist Yangdup Lama explains, “This phenomenon, akin to the effect of Tom Cruise’s portrayal of a bartender in the 1980s film Cocktail, has transformed the art of mixology.”
BEYOND COCKTAILS
The Saltburn scene has also offered inspiration for scented candles, which made their red carpet debut at the Golden Globes (LA) this year. Described as a “100% natural soy wax blend,” these are available on e-commerce platforms Etsy and Amazon for £26 ( ₹2,700). “Mm, smells just like Jacob Elordi’s bathwater. So accurate,” Margot Robbie quipped after a sniff of the packaged wax at the awards. But it was Elordi’s onscreen mum, actor Rosamund Pike, that took the cake when she said, “But he is my son… It’s a bit weird.” Online sellers are now cashing in on the Saltburn hype with tumblers, coffee mugs, bath mats, and even healing crystals.
