Allu Arjun spends night in jail, to be released shortly: Actor's lawyer
Allu Arjun was arrested on Friday after a woman died during a premiere event. He was granted bail but could not be released immediately.
Allu Arjun spent the night in Hyderabad's central jail after being arrested in connection with the death of a woman during the premiere of his latest movie 'Pushpa 2: The Rule'. The actor was granted bail on Friday just hours after his arrest but could not be released as the order reached the jail late.
The Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police, Task Force, informed reporters on Friday night that Allu Arjun's release would take place "tomorrow morning," following the court's decision to grant him interim bail.
"He (Allu Arjun) will be released tomorrow morning," he said.
The Telangana High Court granted interim bail to actor Allu Arjun hours after he was remanded to 14-day judicial custody by a lower court in connection with the death of a woman at Sandhya Theatre in Hyderabad on December 4.
The 'Pushpa' star's lawyer, Ashok Reddy, criticised jail authorities for "not complying" with the bail order. Reddy said that the actor is expected to be released from Hyderabad jail around 7 to 8 am today.
"Order copy of the high court clearly directing the Superintendent of jail to release Allu Arjun forthwith and Superintendent has directed to ensure to release but despite the order. They are not releasing him," the lawyer said.
On the release time of Allu Arjun, Reddy said, "Order copy has been furnished to them and they are bound to comply but they aren't. (The release time is) between 7-8 am tomorrow."
Sandhya Theatre stampede
A 35-year-old woman died and her eight-year-old son was hospitalised on December 4 during a stampede-like situation at the Sandhya Theatre in Hyderabad when thousands of fans jostled to have a glimpse of the actor at the premiere of the blockbuster movie.
Following the incident, the city police registered a case against Allu Arjun, his security team, and the theatre management under different sections of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) at the Chikkadpally police station based on the complaint lodged by the deceased woman's family.
Political slugfest over Allu Arjun's arrest
The high-profile arrest also triggered a political slugfest with the BJP and BRS lashing out at the ruling Congress in Telangana, questioning the treatment meted out to the star and TPCC President Mahesh Kumar Goud hitting back, saying the law is equal for everyone and it will take its course.
Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw slammed the Congress Party over Allu Arjun's arrest, saying that the party has "no respect for the creative industry."
He also urged the Telangana government to punish those whose failure caused the Sandhya Theatre incident instead of attacking film personalities.
