In a miraculous rescue operation, a 13-year-old girl managed to survive by clinging to a plastic pipe and dialling the police for help. The girl with her mother and half-sister was being pushed off a bridge in Andhra Pradesh's Konaseema district in the wee hours of Sunday by her mother's paramour, state police said.
The teen managed to hold on to the pipe, fetched the mobile from her pocket and dialled '100’ for the police to come and rescue her. Meanwhile, a search is on for the girl's half-sister and mother who were washed away in the water.
As soon as the information was received, Ravulapalem Police Station officials reached the site and immediately rescued the girl who was found hanging from the pipeline of the bridge in a very dangerous situation.
The state police took to X (formerly Twitter) to laud the minor girl and the district police for their timeliness.
It said that the girl made the call at around 3.50am. "A man, resident of Tadepalli, pushed the girl, her mother and sister from Ravulapalem Gautami Bridge. The girl dialed 100 to save her by holding onto the plastic pipe of the bridge. With the information received, Ravulapalem PS cops reached the location within 10 min. By that time the girl was found hanging from the pipe line of the #bridge in a very dangerous situation.The cops immediately rescued her. Cops formed 2 teams,one to search the girl's mother&sister who fell in Godavari with the boats,the other to search for the accused & the operations are underway. #DGP Shri K.V Rajendranath Reddy IPS, appreciates @KonaseemaPolice for timely response&saving a girl's life."
While speaking to news agency PTI, Konaseema Superintendent of Police (SP) P Sridhar said that within half an hour's time of receiving the call, the cops managed to save the girl and the efforts are on to locate the minor's mother and sister who have been washed away in the river.
According to the report by PTI citing the police, the girl's mother Suhasini (30), a native of Gudivada met Ulava Suresh (30) while working in a hotel in Tadepalli and later their relationship continued and the former gave birth to a girl.
On Sunday, the accused Suresh took the family to Ravulapalem Goutami bridge in a car and while in the guise of taking a selfie, the man pushed off all the three females into the river. While the girl survived, her half-sister and mother got washed away in the water and are yet to be found.
A probe has been initiated to nab the accused, the official added.
