Arunachal’s Tawang faces power, communication disruption amid heavy snowfall

ITANAGAR: Heavy snowfall since Tuesday evening has thrown normal life out of gear in Arunachal Pradesh's border district of Tawang, officials said.
Attendance in educational institutions has significantly reduced, as vehicles are not plying
The entire district is under a thick layer of snow, affecting essential services, including electricity, water supply, and communication, they said.
Shops in the district largely remained open, but footfall was low as residents only ventured out to buy daily essentials.
Various departments, including power, public health engineering, the Border Roads Organisation, PWD, and the rural works department, are working on war footing to restore essential services.
Police and Army personnel are assisting stranded tourists and commuters at Sela and Jaswant Garh, officials said.
According to the latest weather forecast, snowfall is likely to continue for the next few days. "If the situation persists, further disruptions to normal life may occur. However, no major damage or accidents have been reported so far," an official said.
The district administration has urged residents to take precautions, avoid unnecessary travel, and stay updated with official advisories.
