Bhagwant Mann's oath-taking ceremony: Over 3 lakh people likely to attend

Punjab-chief minister-elect Bhagwant Mann won the Dhuri Assembly seat by over 58,000 votes in the assembly election. He defeated Congress candidate Dalvir Singh Goldy by a margin of 58,206 votes.

Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Bhagwant Mann will be sworn in as Punjab chief minister on Wednesday at Khatkar Kalan, the ancestral village of freedom fighter Bhagat Singh, in the state's Nawanshahr district. Elaborate arrangements have been made for his oath-taking ceremony, for which Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal and other senior party leaders will be present. Over three lakh people are expected to attend officials were quoted by PTI.

According to officials, around 8,000 to 10,000 security personnel have been deployed for the event. Top police officers - of Inspector-General and Senior Superintendent Police rank - have been deputed. The district has also announced a holiday for schools on March 16.

Around 30 ambulances and 12 first-aid teams will also be deployed to guard against any health emergencies.

The district police have also released a route plan for commuters and those traveling to the swearing-in ceremony, PTI reported. Punjab chief secretary Anirudh Tiwari, director-general of police VK Bhawra, and additional chief secretary to the chief minister, A Venu Prasad, have also reviewed all the arrangements.

Bhagwant Mann, who represented the Sangrur constituency in the Lok Sabha, tendered his resignation to Speaker Om Birla on Monday. Following his resignation, the AAP leader invited the people of the state to his oath-taking ceremony and urged men to wear 'basanti' (yellow) turbans and women 'dupatta' (shawl) of the same colour.

The 48-year-old Punjab-chief minister-elect won the Dhuri Assembly seat by over 58,000 votes in the assembly election. He defeated Congress candidate Dalvir Singh Goldy by a margin of 58,206 votes. AAP swept the Punjab assembly with a total of 92 seats out of the 117.
