US treasury’s cash plunges below $50 billion as debt-mimit fight drags on

The amount of money the US government has to pay its bills tumbled to the lowest since 2021, posing a risk the administration will run out of funds by early next month if the statutory debt limit isn’t raised or suspended before then, reports Bloomberg.

The Treasury’s cash balance fell to just $49.5 billion on Wednesday, according to data published Thursday. That’s down from from $76.5 billion a day earlier and $140 billion on May 12. The Treasury’s bank account has been under downward pressure recently because of measures being taken to avoid breaching the $31.4 trillion debt cap. Wednesday’s move was the biggest one-day drop since May 15.

US treasury’s cash plunges below $50 billion as debt-mimit fight drags on

The amount of money the US government has to pay its bills tumbled to the lowest since 2021, posing a risk the administration will run out of funds by early next month if the statutory debt limit isn’t raised or suspended before then, reports Bloomberg.

The Treasury’s cash balance fell to just $49.5 billion on Wednesday, according to data published Thursday. That’s down from from $76.5 billion a day earlier and $140 billion on May 12. The Treasury’s bank account has been under downward pressure recently because of measures being taken to avoid breaching the $31.4 trillion debt cap. Wednesday’s move was the biggest one-day drop since May 15.

Man declared innocent of attempted murder after 33 years in California prison

A California man who spent 33 years in prison for attempted murder has been declared innocent and freed, the Los Angeles County district attorney announced Thursday, reports AP.

Daniel Saldana, 55, was convicted in 1990 of opening fire on a car containing six teenagers who were leaving a high school football game in Baldwin Park, east of Los Angeles. Two students were wounded but survived.

Man beaten to death on suspicion of theft in Mumbai, 4 detained

A 29-year-old man was allegedly beaten to death by a group of people on suspicion of theft in Mumbai's Borivali on Thursday, police said, reports ANI.

"Four persons were detained for allegedly beating to death a 29-year-old man on suspicion of theft in the Kasturba Marg police station area," Mumbai police said.
