India's Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated a new Parliament building on Sunday, with increased seating and state-of-the-art facilities. The ceremony, which included multi-faith prayers and the installation of a ceremonial sceptre, was boycotted by 22 opposition parties who had demanded that the President, rather than the Prime Minister, should have presided over the event. The new building, which cost ?971 crore ($130 million) to build, will replace the iconic circular building that was inaugurated in 1927.

Fresh clashes rock Manipur; 40 ‘terrorists’ killed, says CM

At least 40 Kuki militants have been killed in a security operation in Manipur's Imphal valley. The state has been hit by ethnic violence since the Manipur high court directed on April 27 that the Meities, the dominant community in the state, should be included in the Scheduled Tribes list. The violence has left 74 dead, over 200 injured and more than 1,000 homes burnt. Internet services have been shut for the past 25 days. Union Home Minister Amit Shah is due to visit Manipur on Monday to hold talks with stakeholders to restore calm.

IPEF members agree on supply chain deal to cut China reliance

The Indo-Pacific Economic Framework (IPEF) has reached a deal on supply chain resilience and diversification, with 14 participant countries, including the US and India, agreeing to information-sharing and coordinated crisis response. The group will establish an IPEF supply chain council, supply chain crisis response network, and labour rights advisory network. The deal aims to increase the resilience, efficiency, productivity, sustainability, transparency, diversification, security, fairness, and inclusivity of supply chains. The agreement is subject to domestic approval processes and translation into a final text.
