All of the accused, three of whom are minors, have been apprehended, they said.

According to the accused, two boys Jitender and Nitish were harassing a friend's sister "every day", so they decided to teach them a lesson. On Friday, a fight broke out between them, in which one of them received a serious head injury, police said.

Mahender and three others beat Jitender and Nitish and fled from the spot. Nitish was admitted to Bhagwan Mahavir Hospital by his mother where he was declared brought dead, they said.

A case of murder was registered at Subhash Place based on the statement of Nitish's mother and an investigation was initiated, Deputy Commissioner of Police Abhishek Dhania said.

Police started scrutinising footage of CCTV cameras installed around the incident site. They also began technical surveillance, informers were roped in and and human intelligence was also collected from locally-deployed sources, he said.

A trap was then laid and after a small chase Mahender and the three juveniles were apprehended from Shakurpur, the DCP said.

After sustained interrogation, they confessed to their involvement in the killing and disclosed that Jitender wanted to befriend a girl from Shakurpur and that he used to harass her every day, another officer said. The girl was the sister of a friend of the accused.

On November 8, the four accused threatened Jitender of dire consequences if he continued to approach the girl. "On this, a fight broke out between them and Nitish received severe injury in his head due to which he died," he said.

The officer said further efforts are being made to see if they are involved in any other case.
