Riding on BJP's record Gujarat win, MLA urges Nadda for 'complete revamp' of MP govt: 'It will end...'

BJP MLA from Madhya Pradesh's Maihar constituency wrote in the letter to party's national president JP Nadda that the rejig would “bring a new style of functioning between the government and organisation that [would] pave way for the formation of government with a majority”.

Madhya Pradesh BJP MLA Narayan Tripathi, who often lands in controversy for his statements, has written a letter to the party's national president JP Nadda seeking a complete rejig of the organisational and governance structure of the state similar to the one done in Gujarat last year. Referring to the BJP's record victory in Gujarat in the recently concluded election, Tripathi - an MLA from Maihar - stated in his letter that the restructure of MP government and party unit would help them beat anti-incumbency in next year's Madhya Pradesh assembly polls, news agency PTI reported.

“I want to congratulate you (Nadda) on the spectacular and historic win in Gujarat with a request that a petty worker like me who is always a well-wisher of the party wants that the government in MP must be formed (next year) like that state,” Tripathi's letter, written on Sunday, read.

The MLA further stated that it's the wish of BJP workers that MP government and the organistion is “completely revamped for hurling a new chapter for ending anti-incumbency”. “The change with new people would bring a new style of functioning between the government and organisation that [would] pave way for the formation of government with a majority,” he wrote in Hindi.

Tripathi said that he hoped his request would be accepted so that the saffron unit retains power in Madhya Pradesh and welfare projects in the state can continue unhindered.

The BJP had lost the 2018 assembly elections in Madhya Pradesh, making way for Congress to form a government under Kamal Nath. However, a rebellion by multiple MLAs loyal to current civil aviation minister Jyotiraditya Scindia resulted in the collapse of the regime in March 2020. This led to the saffron camp coming back to power under chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan.

In Gujarat, the BJP replaced Vijay Rupani with Bhupendra Patel as the new CM along with over 40 other MLAs in September last year. In this year's poll, the BJP won a record 156 of 182 seats in the Gujarat assembly, with the majority of the new faces - barring two - clinching victory. The elections were conducted in two phases on December 1 and 5, and the results were announced on December 8.

Tripathi had come in the news in July after his remark against his own party, wherein he said government officials are allegedly garnering votes for the BJP. He made the comment ahead of the local body polls then, and later clarified saying he is not against his side, but he feels “anguished and disturbed” when such incidents happen.

Tripathi had contested in 2003 and 2008 assembly polls from Maihar as a Samajwadi Party (SP) candidate - winning in one and losing in the next. In 2009, he joined Congress and won on the party's ticket in 2013 elections. However, just before the 2014 general polls, he switched to the BJP side.
