West Bengal governor CV Ananda Bose said, "Parents (of the victim) have told me certain things which is very, very heart-breaking. They also gave to me in writing that I have taken up with the Home Minister. Within two days we started seeing action. Their feelings we understand. What they want is also justice. The entire Bengal society seeks justice. Justice will be done. Justice should be done. What I see in Bengal today, especially the administration is going from wrong to wrong. They should realize two wrongs, even if they are mutually contradictory, will not constitute one right."

West Bengal governor CV Ananda Bose said, "What I see in West Bengal today, especially in administration, is going from wrong to wrong. They should realise that two wrongs, even if they are mutually contradictory, will not constitute one right. (The) government has to act and has to take people into confidence. Punishment should be given."

The father of the doctor who was raped and murdered in India's Kolkata city said late Wednesday night that police rushed the family into cremating her even though they wanted to keep her body for some time. (Reuters)

BJP national spokesperson Amit Malviya has cited a letter dated August 10 allegedly signed by Dr Sandip Ghosh, former principal of RG Kar Hospital, which appears to show the hospital's attempt to cover up the crime scene of a trainee doctor's rape and murder. (ANI)

When will the protesters gather at the CGO complex due to the delay in the investigation? The protesters gathered outside the Women's Commission office but did not protest outside the CGO Complex, which is near to it. The opposition has challenged the 'Aparajita Woman and Child Bill (West Bengal Criminal Laws and Amendment) 2024' and said that the Legislative Assembly has passed the bill but will the Governor sign it. Kolkata rape case news live: The Kolkata Police has picked up two men for allegedly misbehaving with women on Wednesday night during “Reclaim the Night” protest held West Bengal to demand justice over the rape and murder of a 31-year-old woman doctor. Read more.

The father of the Kolkata doctor – who was raped and murdered inside the RG Kar Medical College and Hospital – has claimed that he wanted to preserve his daughter's body but was forced to cremate her.

Kolkata rape case news live: While ordering the CBI to file a report regarding offensive social media posts targeting the victim, the Calcutta High Court asked the Centre whether it could find a way to block these types of posts.

The division bench, presided by Chief Justice T S Sivagnanam, directed the joint director, CBI, Kolkata, to look into the grievance expressed by the petitioner with regard to the issue of such abominable social media posts.

Kolkata rape case news live: The Calcutta High Court on Thursday directed the CBI to file a report by September 18 on detestable posts being made on social media regarding the rape-murder victim of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital.

The court noted that nasty comments, which are far from being acceptable to any member of the society, have been made on posts having the photograph of the victim.

Kolkata rape case news live: The aunt of the deceased doctor alleged that Kolkata police offered money as bribe when the family was mourning with the mortal remains of their daughter.

“Till the last rites were not performed, 300-400 policemen surrounded us but after it was performed, not a single policeman was seen there. What would the family do, how would they go home, Police took no responsibility. Police were active till the last rites were performed and after that, they became completely inactive” she alleged.

Kolkata rape case news live: In Mathabhanga town in Cooch Behar district, a protester was assaulted allegedly Trinamool Congress (TMC) members during “Reclaim the Night” protests.

Pradyut Saha, a branch secretary of the CPI(M) and an employee of the Mathabhanga Municipality, was allegedly attacked during a demonstration.

CPI(M) filed a complaint with the police regarding the incident. The TMC has denied involvement of any party member in the assault. (PTI)

Kolkata rape case news live: BJP spokesperson Shehzad Poonawala alleged that recent statements by the victim's parents prove that the West Bengal government had planned an institutional cover up of the rape and murder.

“People came on streets. The victims’ parents joined the protest. TMC goons tried to disrupt it. Now, certain disclosures have been made by the parents. They have spoken about how the Bengal Police tried to bribe them to settle the case”, he told PTI.

Kolkata rape case news live: West Bengal police picked up two men for allegedly misbehaving with women during last night's “Reclaim the night” rally.

In Jadavpur, one person was arrested for allegedly molesting a woman when a large number of people assembled at 8B Bus Stand area. The unidentified man, who was allegedly in an inebriated state, was whisked away by the police and taken to the nearby police station.

In another rally at Garia in southern Kolkata, a youth was detained by police for allegedly misbehaving with women. The youth, also intoxicated, was beaten up by other protesters before being handed over to the police.

Kolkata rape case news live: West Bengal Governor Ananda Bose held an emergency meeting with the Vice Chancellors and addressed them on the ways and means of women's security in the campuses and society, an official statement said.

The meeting involved a discussion on addressing online exploitation and online abuses including online trafficking by empowering the youth through the AHT Clubs.

Kolkata rape case news live: The Supreme Court is likely to resume hearing the case related to rape and murder of female doctor inside Kolkata medical college.

The former principal Dr. Sandip Ghosh has moved the top court over refusal by the Calcutta High Court to include him as a party to a case over financial regularities against him.

The Centre has also approached the SC alleging non-cooperation by the state government to the CISF deployed for security around the medical college.

Kolkata rape case news live: The Reclaim the Night campaign to protest the rape and murder of a female doctor saw violence in Mathabhanga town when a protester was allegedly assaulted by members of the Trinamool Congress (TMC).

Largely driven by social media, this marks second such gathering in Kolkata since a midnight campaign on August 14. The movement also spread to other key locations, including Berhampore, Chinsurah, Santiniketan, Krishnanagar, Bardhaman, Siliguri, Barasat, Barrackpore, Rajarhat-Newtown, Cooch Behar, and Jalpaiguri.
