Latest election highlights

• Union Home Minister and BJP leader Amit Shah will arrive in Kerala on Wednesday to join the BJP-led NDA's Lok Sabha election campaign. This comes on the final day of public campaigning before Kerala heads to the polls on April 26.

• Congress leader P Chidambaram challenged Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday to identify any paragraph in his party's manifesto that could be interpreted as appeasement towards a specific group. "Ask him (PM Narendra Modi) to point out one paragraph in the manifesto which will lead to the conclusion that we are appeasing any section," Chidambaram told reporters in Himachal Pradesh.

• Arun Govil, the BJP candidate for Meerut, expressed his intention to undertake significant developmental initiatives for the city and prioritise addressing traffic issues to enhance connectivity. Wednesday marks the conclusion of campaigning in Meerut, which is scheduled to vote on April 26 during Phase 2 of the Lok Sabha elections.

• The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has named Tashi Gyalson, a former party general secretary of the Ladakh unit, as its candidate from the Ladakh constituency, replacing current MP Jamyang Tsering Namgyal. Tashi Gyalson, a councillor from the Lingshed constituency, served as chairman and chief executive councillor of the 6th Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council (LAHDC), Leh, in 2020.

• In the Andhra Pradesh Assembly elections, Janasena chief Pawan Kalyan and former Union ministers MM Pallam Raju and JD Seelam submitted their nominations. Actor-politician Kalyan, whose Janasena is a constituent of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) in the state, filed his nomination for the Pithapuram assembly seat, accompanied by local party leaders.

Lok Sabha election 2024 phase 2 live updates: The Nanded administration in Maharashtra has issued an order “banning the broadcast of election-related content” by the local All India Radio (AIR) centre and other radio channels in the district 48 hours before polling day. 

- Collector Abhijit Raut, the returning officer for the Nanded Lok Sabha constituency, issued the order on Monday. 

- The order refers to a provision outlined in a handbook published by the Election Commission of India, which prohibits displaying election-related content through TV or similar devices. 

- It clarifies that radio falls under the category of “similar devices”; thus, broadcasting or propagating any election-related content through radio during the specified 48-hour period is not allowed. 

- The collector emphasised that legal action would be taken against those who fail to comply with the order.

Lok Sabha election 2024 phase 2 live updates: On Wednesday morning, Union Home Minister and BJP leader Amit Shah will arrive in Kerala to participate in the BJP-led NDA's Lok Sabha election campaign. This marks the final day of poll campaigning before the state heads to the polls on April 26.

News agency PTI reported that Shah's chopper is scheduled to land at the helipad at Alappuzha Recreation Ground at 8.45 am.

Following his arrival, Shah will travel by road to Punnapra Carmel Ground to participate in the election campaign for NDA candidate Sobha Surendran, according to party sources.
