Lok Sabha Election 2024 Highlights: India is preparing for the sixth phase of the general elections, slated for this Saturday, May 25. With its seven parliamentary seats, the national capital will also go for voting in Phase 6. According to the Election Commission of India (ECI), a total of 889 candidates from eight States and Union Territories (UTs) will contest in this phase of the Lok Sabha elections, set to take place on May 25....Read More

With five out of seven phases already completed, voter turnout stands at approximately 62.2%, slightly lower than the 2019 polls, when 64.16% of 51 seats across seven states went to the polls.

Latest election highlights for Phase 6

- Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set for a poll campaign in Haryana and Punjab, beginning with his first rally in Bhiwani today, followed by Patiala. He will address gatherings in Gurdaspur and Jalandhar on Friday. The polling for the 13 Lok Sabha seats in Punjab is scheduled for June 1.

- Farmer leader Balbir Singh Rajewal announced on Tuesday that farmers intend to display black flags to PM Modi during his Punjab poll campaigning. This decision emerged from a rally organised by the Samyukta Kisan Morcha in Jagraon, Ludhiana district.

"Halting BJP's roadshow by Bengal police is an insult to democratic system," says Tripura CM Saha

Condemning the act of West Bengal police of halting BJP's roadshow on Thursday, Tripura Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha said that "jungle raj" is prevailing in the state.

The Chief Minister said that the West Bengal police stopped the BJP's roadshow saying that there is no prior permit for it. He stated that the party had obtained written permission to carry out the roadshow.

Lok Sabha polls Phase 6: BJP's Aparajita Sarangi eyes to retain Bhubaneswar seat

The Bubaneswar seat will witness a three-way contest among the sitting MP Aparajita Sarangi, Congress leader Yasir Nawaz and Biju Janata Dal leader Manmath Routray.

In 2019 Lok Sabha elections, Aparajita Sarangi secured victory from this seat after facing a close contest from BJD's Arup Mohan Patnaik. Sarangi got 4,86,991 votes while Patnaik got 4,63,152 votes.

According to Sarangi, several developmental works have been done, but some are still pending, including proper drainage systems, better roads and other facilities. The senior leader said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi always asks everybody to serve the people.

Two candidates with zero declared asserts in fray in fourth phase of Odisha polls

Two candidates in the fray in the fourth and final phase of assembly elections in Odisha have declared zero assets in their affidavits, according to a report.

Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara and Jagatsinghpur Lok Sabha constituencies along with 42 assembly segments falling under these parliamentary seats will go to polls in the last phase on June 1.

PM Modi doesn't understand pain of farmers, poor: Priyanka Gandhi in Haryana

Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra lashed out at Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday, accusing him of not understanding the pain of farmers and the poor and alleging that his government frames policies only for his "billionaire" friends.

She also hit out at the BJP-led Centre over the issues of "Agniveer" and female wrestlers.

Addressing a Lok Sabha poll rally in Panipat district of Haryana after holding a roadshow in Sirsa, Gandhi announced that once the Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance (INDIA) forms its government at the Centre, farmers will get a legal guarantee on the minimum support price (MSP) for crops and their debts will be waived.

"One thing that has become clear in 10 years is that Modiji does not understand the pain of farmers, the poor, middle class, women and youngsters," she said.

BJP filling Hindutva void created by Jayalalithaa's demise: Annamalai

The BJP is filling the void in Tamil Nadu politics left by the death of AIADMK supremo and former chief minister J Jayalalithaa, who was a "far superior" Hindutva leader, the BJP's state chief K Annamalai has said.

In an interaction with PTI Editors here, Annamalai said he is confident that the BJP will get a double-digit vote share in Tamil Nadu in the Lok Sabha elections and emerge as a third major party in the southern state.

The IPS officer-turned-politician said he will not let the BJP play second fiddle to any political party in Tamil Nadu, where there is a great scope for his party to fill the void created by the AIADMK's "drifting away" from the Hindutva ideology after Jayalalithaa's passing.

Lok Sabha Election 2024 Live: DCP Election cell Sanjay Sehrawat explains the preparations in the national capital for the upcoming polls for the general election.

Delhi Police has completed preparations for the May 25 elections. A total of 2,628 voting centres will be operational, with 429 identified as highly sensitive.

- Over 33,000 Delhi Police personnel will be deployed at polling booths, supplemented by 51 paramilitary companies for additional security. Additionally, 17,500 Home Guards from Rajasthan, Uttarakhand, and Madhya Pradesh will also be deployed.

- Drones will be employed in sensitive areas to monitor any illegal activities. Extensive CCTV camera installations have been set up along interstate borders, enabling 24-hour surveillance.

Due to simultaneous elections in Delhi and Haryana, security checks at the Delhi-Haryana border will be overseen by a collaborative effort between the Delhi and Haryana police.

Lok Sabha Election 2024 Live: Delhi Metro to commence services early on polling day during Phase 6

Lok Sabha Election 2024 Live: Metro rail services will commence at 4 am on the day of the voting in Delhi, scheduled for May 25, as announced by the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) on Wednesday.

Anuj Dayal, principal executive director of corporate communications at DMRC, stated that the decision aims to facilitate transportation for the staff deployed for election duty.

In a statement posted on X, the DMRC said, “On the day of the Lok Sabha elections in Delhi on 25th May, 2024 (Saturday), the Delhi Metro train services on all Lines will start from 04:00 AM so that the staff deployed for election duty can avail the facility.”

“From 4 am to 6 a.m., metro trains will operate at a frequency of 30 minutes on all lines. Following this, regular metro train services will resume and operate throughout the day,” Dayal added.
