Lok Sabha election 2024 Highlights: After the first phase of voting, the political parties have intensified their poll campaigns for remaining constituencies, with PM Modi addressing a poll-bound rally in Rajasthan's Jalore and Banswara today. The second phase of the elections will be held on April 26 in 89 constituencies across 13 states and Union territories (UTs)....Read More

Meanwhile, the Election Commission has announced repolling at 11 polling stations in Inner Manipur Lok Sabha constituency on April 22 after the polls held at these stations on April 19 were declared as null and void following the incidents of firing, intimidation, destruction of EVMs at some polling booths.

All eyes are on two major political alliances namely, the INDIA bloc and the Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led NDA- the major competitors in the Lok Sabha Election 2024. While the INDIA bloc comprises of political parties like the Congress, the AAP, the TMC etc. NDA has the BJP, the PMK, the JDU etc. as its member parties.

NDA is eyeing its third consecutive term this general election, with echoes of ‘abki baar 400 paar’, while the opposition INDIA bloc is taking an economical approach to their campaign, promising MSP for farmers and cash handouts to women in their manifesto.

The opposition INDIA bloc has done well in the first phase of Lok Sabha polls held across the country on April 19, senior Congress leader Digvijaya Singh claimed on Sunday. Singh has been fielded by the Congress from his home turf Rajgarh in Madhya Pradesh. "Good news is coming for INDIA bloc from several places in the first phase of Lok Sabha polls. BJP is not getting the success they expected in their strongholds. They are nervous," Singh told reporters in Ajgari village, which is part of Chachoda assembly segment under Rajgarh LS seat.

Accusing the INDIA bloc as a group of dynastic politics, BJP national president J P Nadda on Sunday said the members of 'Ghamandia' (arrogant) parties are either on bail or in jail. Thackeray also called for the ECI to take action against PM Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah for campaigning in the name of Ram and Hanuman. Thackeray described the ECI's objection to the slogan "Jai Bhavani" as an insult to Marathi pride, declaring that they will not accept it.

Lok Sabha election 2024 LIVE Updates:  Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge and former chief Sonia Gandhi have been delegated the responsibility of finalising the remaining candidates for the Lok Sabha election by the party. 

During the Central Election Committee (CEC) meeting, Kharge and Gandhi also convened an exclusive discussion for 15-20 minutes, with other members of the poll panel waiting outside the meeting room.

"No one knows what transpired during that discussion as even tea or water was allowed in," said a senior leader. 

The CEC planned to address the vacant seats in Bihar, Haryana, and Punjab during its scheduled meeting. However, the two remaining seats in UP, Amethi and Raebareli, were not formally included in the meeting's agenda. 

To date, the Congress has revealed candidates for over 280 seats, with Haryana remaining the only state where no candidate has been announced yet.

This rule is rarely followed in the lower judiciary, Magistrates, and district judges, ultimately not everybody can go to the Supreme Court to get bail. 65% of the prisoners are undertrial, they are not convicts, so why are they in jail... 90% of the undertrials are OBCs, SC and ST, therefore, we would bring a special law 'Bail is the rule, jail is the exception'- everybody after the first 15 days of interrogation by police or the CBI must be granted bail.”

Lok Sabha elections 2024 LIVE: In Kerala's Thiruvananthapuram Congress leader P Chidambaram says, “We will repeal, amend and review the following sets of laws- CAA 2019, it is top of the list. The Farmers Produce, Trade and Commerce Promotion of Facilitation Act 2020, the Bharatiya Nyaya (Second) Sanhita that is equivalent to IPC, the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita that is the CrPC and the Bharatiya Sakshya (Second) act that is the evidence act. These five will be repealed. Then, we have eight laws which will be repealed, and new laws will be made. Then we have 25 laws which will be amended and brought on par with the Constitution. So we are clear that the Citizenship Amendment Act will be repealed.”
