HC asks Apollo Hospitals to submit report on Jayalalithaa’s blood samples
The court’s order came as it heard a petition filed by S Amrutha, who claims to be Jayalalithaa’s daughter.
The Madras high court on Wednesday directed Apollo Hospitals to submit a detailed report on the blood samples of late chief minister J Jayalalithaa, who passed away after prolonged hospitalisation there in December 2016.
The hospital was asked to submit details on Thursday on a petition filed by 37-year-old S Amrutha, who claims she is the late chief minister’s daughter.
Amrutha had approached the Madras high court on the direction of the Supreme Court for a DNA test to prove she was Jayalalithaa’s biological daughter.
The Madras high court had also questioned Apollo Hospitals about Jayalalithaa’s blood samples last year.
The hospital has been seeking more time to submit its report, but the court refused its plea. It also dismissed petitions seeking quashing of Amrutha’s petition.
On November 27, 2017, in a writ petition filed before the Supreme Court, Amrutha sought a DNA test to establish she is Jayalalithaa’s biological daughter. The Supreme Court had rejected the petition then and directed Amrutha to approach the Madras HC.
The court directive is being considered as a precursor to a DNA test, which could establish the petitioner’s parentage.
