The Arvind Kejriwal-led AAP has bagged a landslide victory in the Punjab polls, winning 92 of the 117 Assembly seats, pushing most of its rivals to the margins.

Baldev Kaur, mother of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA Labh Singh Ugoke from Punjab, is back at a government school to resume her work as a sweeper. Her son is, meanwhile, being hailed as a giant killer for defeating outgoing chief minister Charanjit Singh Channi by a margin of 37,550 votes from the Bhadaur seat. Ugoke used to work at a mobile repairing shop before entering the poll fray.

Kaur says the family has always worked hard to earn money and she would stick to her work with the broom (also AAP’s poll symbol) despite her son’s win as a legislator.

"We have always worked hard to earn money. Irrespective of my son's position, I will continue to perform my duty in the school," said Kaur.

Expressing her happiness over her son’s victory on an AAP ticket, Kaur said, “The ‘jhaadu' is an important part of my life”.

She said her son had always been confident even though he was pitted against a heavyweight candidate like Channi.

The principal of the school where she works, Amrit Pal Kaur, said Ugoke had been a student there and brought many laurels for the village and the school earlier too.

"His mother has been working as a sweeper in this school for a long time now. He has also studied in this school. He has brought many laurels to his village and school. Kaur says she wants to continue working in the school," said the principal.

Ugoke’s father, Darshan Singh, a driver, said the family will continue to live the way it used to and nothing much would change, adding all that he wishes for his son is that he focuses on the welfare of people.

Ugoke, had joined the Aam Aadmi Party as a volunteer in 2013.
