The Railway ministry had issued four special trains to evacuate passengers along with help from the Delhi police, Railway police, NDRF, fire services and ambulances.

Delhi Fire Service (DFS) chief Atul Garg said the incident occurred at 9:55 pm on platforms 14 and 15.

“Authorities immediately dispatched rescue teams and four fire tenders were rushed to the site to assist in the relief efforts," Garg said.

Key updates | New Delhi Railway Station Stampede:

- The Congress party expressed their condolences for the families affected by the stampede and put out a list of questions for the Centre to answer regarding who was responsible for the tragedy and why the necessary arrangements had not been made to handle the crowd.

- AAP leader Somnath Bharti blamed the BJP for the loss of 16 lives in the NDLS stampede, stating that it was completely careless of the BJP. In a post on X he said, “BJP neither has heart nor expertise to manage people of this scale but they are not even sorry for this man made tragedy!”

- Deputy commissioner of police (DCP) Railway, KPS Malhotra told news agency ANI that the stampede-like situation at the New Delhi Railway Station occurred due to an influx of passengers from delayed trains within a span of 15-20 minutes causing a sudden rush. He said that in the rush, several passengers fainted leading to their injuries.

- The Railway ministry has ordered a high-level inquiry into the incident. As per a statement released by the ministry all the injured passengers have been evacuated.

New Delhi Railway Station Stampede Live: AAP leader Atishi commented on the news of a stampede-like situation at New Delhi Railway Station and accused the Central and UP government of not caring about people's safety.

In a post on X, Atishi said, “Such an incident with the devotees going for Maha Kumbh is very sad. Neither the central government nor the UP government is concerned about the safety of the people. There are no arrangements in Prayagraj nor are there any concrete traffic arrangements for the devotees coming from different states of the country.”

The AAP leader also requested the Railway Department to provide help to people as soon as possible.
