Rain Today Highlights: IMD issues 'red alert' for parts of Maharashtra tomorrow

With the recovery of a body from Rajban village in Himachal's Mandi, the death toll due to flash floods triggered by cloudbursts in three districts has increased to nine as the rescuers continue to search for about 45 missing people.

According to officials, 410 rescuers from teams of the Army, NDRF, SDRF, ITBP, CISF, Himachal Pradesh Police and home guards are involved in the hunt with the help of drones.

About 45 people have been missing since a series of cloudbursts occurred in Kullu's Nirmand, Sainj and Malana; Mandi's Padhar and Shimla's Rampur subdivision on the night of July 31 and wreaked havoc.

The body of 11-year-old Anamika was found under a big boulder, which was blasted by the rescue teams, the officials said.

Flash floods and landslides caused by cloudbursts and heavy rain have closed 114 roads in Himachal Pradesh. The weather department has warned that the heavy rain will continue in the state until August 7.

Among the closed roads, 36 are in Mandi, 34 in Kullu, 27 in Shimla, eight in Lahaul and Spiti, seven in Kangra, and two in Kinnaur district, according to the state emergency operation center.

The Himachal Roads Transport Corporation has stopped its bus services on 82 routes, an official said.

Moderate to heavy rain continues in parts of the state. Jogindernagar received the most rain with 85 mm since Friday evening, followed by Gohar with 80 mm, Shilaroo with 76.4 mm, Poanta Sahib with 67.2 mm, Palampur with 57.2 mm, Dharamshala with 56.2 mm, and Chopal with 52 mm.

The local weather office has issued a "yellow" alert for heavy rain until August 7.

Search and rescue efforts have continued for five days in the landslide-hit areas of Wayanad, with the death toll reaching 308.

Baladi Village in Kullu has lost road access, electricity, and water supply due to a cloudburst.

A resident said to ANI, "Seven houses and a primary school in our village have been washed away due to the flood...No casualties are there...There is no water supply, electricity or other facilities here...The government has sent no relief yet..."

Indian Army Brigadier RP Singh In Himachal's Rampur said to ANI, "We have deployed a 20-ton excavator here. Five more excavators will reach here tomorrow. Work is going on in collaboration with the civil administration and NDRF. Efforts are being made to find as many bodies as possible in the search operation... Quadcopter, sniffer dogs have been used in the search operation...A footbridge was also installed to cross the river to facilitate movement ..."

Himachal Pradesh Assembly LoP Jairam Thakur said to ANI on his visit to the flood-affected areas of Kullu, "The situation here is a matter of concern. The people were not able to recover from the past situations and this incident has occurred again...A huge loss has happened...Several people are missing...Rescue is underway by the central government and PM Modi has also assured that he will provide all possible help to the state..."

Rain Today Live Updates: Traffic on a stretch of the Chandigarh-Manali National Highway has been restored after being blocked by heavy rain, authorities said on Saturday. Landslides at 5 Mile, 6 Mile, and 9 Mile had obstructed the road between Mandi and Pandoh on Friday night. It took authorities 10 hours to clear the section.

Stones and debris littered the road, prompting the administration to direct light vehicles to use alternate routes via Kataula and Gohar. Many vehicles remained stranded.

Authorities have cleared the road at 5 Mile and 6 Mile, allowing one-way traffic from Mandi to Pandoh at 9 Mile. The road is expected to fully reopen by 10 am.
