Ranveer Allahbadia row | Highlights: Maha govt orders probe into ‘obscene programmes’

After receiving flak for his comments on YouTube show India's Got Latent, content creator Ranveer Allahbadia on February 10 took to social media to post a video in which he apologised for his statements.

He captioned the video, “I shouldn’t have said what I said on India’s got latent. I’m sorry.”

Influencer Apoorva Mukhija, also known as Rebel Kid, has been removed from the list of official ambassadors for the International Indian Film Academy (IIFA) awards ceremony set to take place in Rajasthan's Jaipur next month.

This decision follows controversy surrounding Apoorva's appearance on an episode of Samay Raina's show India Got Latent, where YouTuber Ranveer Allahbadia made an inappropriate comment about parents.

"It has been mentioned on behalf of IIFA that the name of social media influencer Apoorva Mukhija has been removed from the list of IIFA ambassadors. She is now not officially a part of the list of IIFA ambassadors," an official statement from the office of Diya Kumari, tourism minister and deputy chief minister of Rajasthan, cited in reports, stated.

This action follows a threat by the Karni Sena to disrupt Apoorva's planned shoot in Udaipur later this month.

After FIRs in Mumbai and Assam, another one was filed in Kota as the row over Ranveer Allahbadia's controversial remarks refuses to die down.

Earlier today, Pratham Sagar, the video editor of 'India's Got Latent' show, reached the Khar police station to join the investigation.

Uttar Pradesh State Women Commission Vice Chairperson Aparna Yadav on Friday urged the state's Director General of Police to ensure that no "undignified comments" are made on women during stand-up comedian Anubhav Singh Bassi's upcoming show in Lucknow. This comes amid a row over Ranveer Allahbadia's remarks on comedian Samay Raina's show ‘India’s Got Latent'.

Several Organisations like Rajput Karni Sena have also condemned the remarks, saying that it goes against ‘Indian culture’. Former Indian cricket captain Virat Kohli has also reportedly unfollowed Allahbadia. Actors like Pankaj Tripathi and Priyanka Chopra have condemned the remarks.

"We were unable to get in touch with YouTuber Ranveer Allahbadia as his mobile phone was switched off and his house was locked. His lawyer was also unreachable, ANI quoted a statement from Mumbai Police.

Maharashtra Cultural Affairs Minister Ashish Shelar on Friday asked officials of his department to investigate shows that promote obscenity and are selling tickets without the approval of the Theatre Inspection Board. The directive comes in the backdrop of the furore caused by controversial remarks made by Youtuber Ranveer Allahbadia, PTI reported.

Former WWE wrestler Saurav Gurjar strongly condemned Ranveer Allahbadia’s controversial comments that have landed him in trouble. In a video posted on X, Gurjar called for strict action against the podcaster.

He also warned Allahbadia, stating that if they were to cross paths in Mumbai, not even his security detail would be able to protect him.

Mumbai Police have been unable to contact YouTuber Ranveer Allahbadia, who is facing backlash over controversial remarks made on the show India’s Got Latent. According to a report by India Today, authorities attempted to reach Allahbadia, but his phone remained switched off.

Comedian Munawar Faruqui has stirred social media after taking a dig at YouTuber Ranveer Allahbadia in light of the controversy. In a video uploaded on Friday (February 14) , Faruqui, who appears to be outside India, is seen standing by a street as he points at passing cars, humorously remarking in Hindi, "Police jaa rahi hai BeerBiceps ke liye" (The police are going to Ranveer's house). Adding to the buzz, he captioned the video, "Ladka nikal gaya hai haath se" (He is out of our hands).

He is credited with India's first trans-ethnic surrogate pregnancy and the first pregnancy for a same-sex couple. Interestingly, Gautam comes from a family of doctors but initially aspired to be an artist. Gautam began his career in a garage, which he transformed into a clinic and lab for semen processing. His innovative work has made significant contributions to reproductive health in India.

Ranveer Allahbadia was asked to remain present at Mumbai's Khar police station on Friday after he failed to appear in connection with a probe into his controversial comments on the YouTube show, an official said as per a PTI report.
