Telangana Election Results highlights: Counting done, Congress declared winner with 64 seats

After bagging 64 out of 119 seats, the Congress made a historic victory in Telangana. The BRS, which ruled the state for close to a decade, won 39 seats, whereas, BJP won 9. Among others, AIMIM courted all seven seats and CPI got one.

The Asaduddin Owaisi-led All India Majlis-E-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) emerged victorious in all seven assembly seats it had contested, and continued to hold sway over the Old City of Hyderabad, its traditional bastion. The party, which has held on to these seven segments in the outgoing assembly, has been winning from these seats since 2009.

The Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) posted on X (formerly Twitter) that state party chief Revanth Reddy along with a delegation of party leaders will meet Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan shortly.

Emerging victorious in 62 seats, the Congress crossed the halfway mark of 60 in the 119-member Telangana legislative assembly, making way to form the first non-BRS government in Telangana.

Tamil Nadu chief minister and DMK president MK Stalin on Sunday congratulated Congress for winning the Telangana assembly elections. He also greeted BJP for its victories in three states – Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh and Madhya Pradesh.

"Congratulations to the winning parties in the state legislative elections of Telangana, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, and Rajasthan! Wishing them a term filled with positive change, progress, and prosperity for people from all sections," Stalin wrote on X (formerly Twitter).

After facing a defeat, K Chandrashekar Rao on Sunday submitted his resignation to Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan.

Bharatiya Janata Party's (BJP) Katipally Venkata Ramana Reddy in an unusual turn of events, managed to defeat both the outgoing and possible incoming chief ministers in Telangana as the election result declared the BJP leader victorious in the key Kamareddy assembly. BJP's Katipally Venkata Ramana Reddy has defeated Congress' Revanth Reddy and chief minister K Chandrashekar Rao in the key assembly constituency of Kamareddy.

Telangana Election Results LIVE: As of 6 pm, the Congress has won 40 seats and is leading in 24 seats in the 119-member state Assembly. The BRS has won 17 and is leading on 22.

The Election Commission of India has suspended Anjani Kumar, director general of police Telangana for violation of the Model Code of Conduct and relevant conduct rules.

The Election Commission of India has suspended Anjani Kumar, the Director General of Police Telangana for violation of the Model Code of Conduct and relevant conduct rules, ANI is reporting.

Telangana Election Results LIVE: Congress chief Rahul Gandhi has reacted to the poll results. Accepting the party's defeat in Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, and Chhattisgarh, Gandhi said that he would continue the ideological fight. “I am very thankful to the people of Telangana,” he adds.

According to the Election Commission data, the Congress has won 20 seats and is leading on 43 others.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has thanked the people of Telangana for their support of the BJP.

He also appreciated the “industrious efforts” of each and every BJP worker in the state.

Leading in over 66 seats in the state, Congress is paving its path to a historic victory in the Telangana assembly elections 2023, ousting the government of Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao's Bharat Rashtra Samiti (BRS).

This is the first time that BRS is on track to lose the elections in Telangana ever since the inception of the state in 2014. K Chandrashekar Rao will be stepping down from the CM post for the first time since 2014, with Congress leader Revanth Reddy expected to take the post.

However, poll strategist Sunil Kanugolu is one of the major reasons behind Congress' victory in Telangana, mirroring the same thumping majority bagged by the party in the Karnataka elections, earlier this year.
