Three killed as police car runs over bystanders in Tamil Nadu
Two of the deceased died on the spot while an aged lady succumbed to injuries after she lost both her legs in the accident.
A police vehicle ploughed into a group of bystanders, killing three persons, two of them on the spot, in Kancheepuram district on Friday, soon after it left the convoy of Tamil Nadu governor.

The accident occurred when governor Banwarilal Purohit was returning from Cuddalore after holding review meetings with district officials.
According to a Raj Bhavan press release, a Bolero vehicle, deputed as an advance pilot, met with the accident after it left the convoy as it entered the Kancheepuram’s jurisdiction.
“The vehicle that met with an accident was entirely on its own and was not part of the convoy of the governor,” the release said.
Police identified the deceased as Karthi (12), Suresh (35) and Kausalya (62). The aged lady, who lost both her legs in the accident, succumbed to the injuries in the hospital.
Another person was injured in the accident.
According to police the accident occurred in the afternoon near New Kalpakkam Road as the driver lost control of the vehicle.
Mahabalipuram police have registered a case and are investigating the incident.
Further details are awaited.
Incidentally, the governor’s review meetings with officials have not gone down well with political parties, especially the opposition.
DMK working president MK Stalin has demanded that the governor stop this political work of reviewing projects in various districts and instead order chief minister K Palaniswami to prove his majority on the floor of the house in the wake of a split in the ruling AIADMK.
The governor’s office had countered the allegations saying such review meetings were very much within the framework of the Constitution and that he would continue to hold similar parleys with officials.
