Shiromani Akali Dal chief Sukhbir Singh Badal was shot at by a man while he was performing the duty of ‘sewadar’ outside the Golden Temple in Punjab's Amritsar on Wednesday. Sukhbir Singh Badal, who was sitting in a wheelchair, escaped unhurt as the bullet hit a wall.

The daring attack was caught on camera by mediapersons gathered outside a Sikh shrine, covering the second day of Sukhbir Singh Badal's penance for the "mistakes" made by the SAD government in Punjab from 2007 to 2017.
Television footage showed Narain Singh Chaura, slowly approaching Badal, who was seated in a wheelchair due to a fractured leg, and pulling a gun from his pocket. A plainclothes police officer nearby acted swiftly, grabbing Chaura’s hands, causing the bullet to miss its target and hit a wall behind Badal. Badal escaped unhurt.
The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) task force quickly intervened, and security officials detained Chaura, who is a former terrorist from Dera Baba Nanak.
Amritsar Police Commissioner Gurpreet Singh Bhullar credited the vigilance of the police for foiling the attack on Badal, who is a Z-category protectee.
