48 models selected to participate in Lakme Fashion Week

The Fashion Design Council of India announced the names of 48 leading models who will bring alive the creations of India?s top designers and add pizzazz and glamour to the prestigious Lakme India Fashion Week 2003,

The Fashion Design Council of India announced the names of 48 leading models who will bring alive the creations of India’s top designers and add pizzazz and glamour to the prestigious Lakme India Fashion Week 2003, which will be held at the National Centre for the Performing Arts (NCPA), Mumbai from July 18 –24.

The models, working in three groups, will display the Prêt (ready-to-wear) and Diffusion (a line between ready-to-wear and couture) lines at the country’s largest event of the fashion design industry. The female models are: Sheetal Mallar, Jesse Randhawa, Fleur Xavier, Cleo Isaacs, Vidisha Pavate, Nina Manuel, Viveka Babajee, Tupur Chaterjee, Tapur Chaterjee, Shivani Kapoor, Diandra Soares, Shonali Rosario, Sapna Kumar, Sampada Inamdar, Michelle Innes, Joey Matthews, Carol Gracias, Bhawna Sharma, Indrani Dasgupta, Binal Trivedi, Alysia Raut, Uma Chiplunkar, Kaveri Khullaar, Gauhar Khan, Candice Pinto, Mridula Chandrashekhar, Kavita Kharayat, Shonal Rawat, Piya Trivedi, Sheetal Menon, Deepti Gujral, and Megha Kawale.
The male models are : Zulfi Sayed, Ajay Balhara, Vijay Balhara, Niketan Madhok, Praveen Sirohi,  Shawar Ali, Aditya Bal, Rajat Chandarlal, Haroon Kazi, Shayaan Munshi, Rajiv Singh, Tarun Arora, Rajneesh Duggal, Murtaza Maulvi, Falaknaaz Yunus, and Acquin Pais

Announcing the names, Vinod Kaul, Executive Director, FDCI said, "We consider models as important stakeholders of the fashion industry. They bring to life the creativity of designers. At the moment LIFW ramp is the pen-ultimate destination for a model. It's the culmination of the best and the most promising modeling talent in our country. This year we have introduced 13 new models to infuse fresh talent which is in keeping with the FDCI's mandate for the growth of Fashion industry in India”

Ravi Krishnan, Managing Director – IMG-TWI South Asia, said, "Lakme India Fashion Week is the country's most high-profile platform for the entire fashion industry and the best modeling talent in India is on display during this event. This year we have gone one step further by providing fresh talent an opportunity to make a mark on the ramp, an endeavour that will help grow the modeling industry in the country."

The list of models includes the 13 new faces that were selected early this week during an audition organised by FDCI. This is the first time that FDCI has organised an audition to select models for LIFW. There was an overwhelming response and 140 models, including 53 female models and 87 male models, participated in the audition that was held at the Jamshed Bhabha Theatre, NCPA.
