According to Lucknow Municipal Corporation officials, they have already planned construction of an underground parking at several places in Hazratganj and submitted the projects in the proposal of National Urban Renewal Mission.
It may be recalled that LMC and Traders of Hazratganj and Aminabad were at loggerheads on the issue of increase in the parking rates. The LMC officials were justifying the parking rates by saying that it was one of the main sources of income, in the absence of a hike some development projects would be hampered.
However, the traders were demanding the LMC to increase its revenue collection through the parking lots by constructing new parking lots in the city.
A delegation of traders led by president of Aminabad Traders’ Association Susheel Gurnani and trader leader Sanjay Gupta met district magistrate RN Tripathi over the issue. Meanwhile, president of Hazratganj Traders’ Association wrote a letter to the chief minister mentioning about the parking blues in Ganj.
The traders association mentioned all the problems regarding the parking in the letter. They demanded construction of underground parking facilities in the areas near Hazratganj Qotwali, Bhopal House, Dayanidhan Park, Sarojini Naidu Park and IG Jail office.
They have also mentioned about the proposals regarding the underground parking in these areas are already passed by the LMC executive committee in the past.
Acting municipal commissioner Santosh Kumar said, “ We are already working on the proposals of creating new underground parking facilities in the Hazratganj area. In the proposals of NURM we have included these projects. We are just waiting for the finalisation of a consultant by the government. If everything goes right for us then we would be having some underground parking lots in the Hazratganj soon.”
